Who Am I?

The Mission

I am a (soon to be) Molecular ad Biomedical Biology (B.S.) graduate from the University of Nebraska Omaha with an additional degree in General Health Science (A.S.). I have a deep-seated interest in microbiology, immunology,  biochemistry, nutrition science, and healthcare. My path in science is driven by both interest and a desire to help humanity further our knowledge and understanding of science and medicine.

After graduation on May 8, I hope to obtain an assistant position in research or lab work to both gain experience and make connections. Down the line I plan on returning to school to earn a graduate degree. Perhaps that might be in one of my biological interest niches, or it might involve going to medical or PA school. I’m optimistic that whatever path I take will result in helping to shape science and healthcare.

Scientific Interests & Personal Research Goals

After graduation, there are several topics I want to research further on my own via available peer research.

  • Nutritional effects on the microbiome

  • Nutritional effects on neurodivergent disorders like ASD and ADHD

  • The relationship between the immune system and narcolepsy

  • The relationship between Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, and ASD

  • If there is a relationship between the length of time to diagnosis and provider experience

  • Viruses – particularly retroviruses, giant viruses, and virophages

  • Commensal bacteria

  • Incidence of pathogenic diseases in different cultures

  • Medicine men in Native American nations

Beyond the Bench

When I’m not studying for my classes and labs, you can usually find me trying to tap into my creative side. I’ve really become obsessed with journaling, and have developed a Journal Ecosystem that utilizes several journals and planners to organize my life and thoughts. Washi tape and stickers make organizing life and finances a lot more fun. In one of my journals, I have been learning a new and uncommon “Word of the Day” to expand my vocabulary.

Another creative hobby of mine is crochet. The quarantine we had in 2020 was the perfect time to pick up a new hobby. I’ve made a few sweaters, scarves, and blankets. Its mostly relaxing, although counting stitches can be very frustrating! I also enjoy reading horror novels, which is ironic because of my fear of horror movies. Perhaps its because I can control what my brain envisions rather than being forced to see what’s on the screen of a movie.

At home I have two wonderful guinea pigs, Abe and Mr. Bubbles. These guys are little, but they are also quite a handful.
